Tufts Medicine Mammographer in Lowell, Massachusetts

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mammographer performs/supervises services in the Imaging service area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain current knowledge in areas of performing screening and diagnostic procedures.

  • Provides clear explanation of exam to patient and verbally reviews all information on mammo history sheet with patient to ensure accuracy.

  • Provides patient education and instruction to include breast self-examination, importance and frequency of clinical breast exams and mammography

  • Verifies proper exam in RIS system and enters patient history in Mammography Case Maintenance.

  • Updates information, as necessary, to maintain accurate information

  • Operates mammography equipment, including biopsy device as requested, using proper exposure factors producing high quality images with complete anatomy and no technical errors.

  • Adheres to ALARA policy by keeping repeat imaging to a minimum

  • Operates bone densitometry equipment to produce quality images for radiologist interpretation to include comparison imaging.

  • Documents all appropriate patient history for proper diagnosis

  • Prepares exams by providing prior images and/or sufficient information regarding outside images to be obtained quickly and efficiently to decrease delay in radiologic interpretation

  • Properly reviews images to confirm adequate transfer to PACS.

  • Scans history sheet and physician’s order in PACS

  • Performs quality control tests as required by regulations put forth by DPH and ACR. Ensures proper documentation on all forms necessary in preparation for annual inspection

  • Communicates interdepartmentally, appropriate and adequate information regarding patient care.

  • Abides by LGH Hand-off policy to avoid imaging errors

  • Contacts physician offices to obtain written orders with sufficient information to determine appropriate imaging and decrease insurance denials for reimbursement.

  • Keeps proper documentation of required CEUs, Mammography Registry and MA License at LGH as required by DPH, ACR and ARRT

Associates Degree or prior college required. 1-3 years of professional experience required.
