Job Summary:

The Clinical Leader of Behavioral Health is a Registered Professional Nurse with responsibility and accountability for the coordination of clinical activities and patient care. Develops and sustains an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and customer satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency, productivity and utilization of all resources.

The Clinical Leader utilizes the nursing process, leadership skills and current evidence based clinical knowledge to assess the needs of the departments, collaborate with health team members to coordinate patient care and set criteria for the quality of patient care. Provides patient and staff education, clinical supervision, and participates in unit based activities (quality assessment, shared governance, quality review, staff development in-services, simulation drills, etc.)

Responsibilities :

  • Offer direct, timely feedback to staff regarding practice concerns and compliments

  • Acts as a role model for clinical excellence and promotion of professional practice.

  • Assists in clinical problem-solving and the development of critical thinking skills.

  • Assists with ensuring implementation of the nursing process and established nursing standards:

  • Observes and monitors compliance of nursing staff in the daily practice of care delivery

  • Demonstrates standards compliance through staff documentation in the medical record

  • Ensures staff compliance with annual re-certification program

  • Ensures staff compliance with competency education and age specific programs

  • Be visible and available to answer questions, assist with treatments/procedures.

  • Designated resource for all novice staff and floats.

  • May provide patient care, less than 30% of the time.

  • Assist with concerns and welcome compliments.

  • Promote excellent relations and collaboration between staff and others on each unit in the hospital.

  • Supports unit performance improvement.

  • Utilize the available resources in a cost effective manner.

  • Staff Development and Performance Improvement: Assists Clinical Manager with developing and retaining extraordinary employees through coaching and performance feedback resulting in mutual trust and respect:

  • Collaborates with the Clinical Manager, Nursing Director, Hospital Educators, staff and preceptors to develop and evaluate education programs within the specialty area.

  • Assists with the Coordination of all aspects of Performance Management including: setting expectations, continuing education, credentialing, performance appraisals, auditing, concurrent monitoring, utilization review, risk management and active problem identification.

  • Demonstrates ability to collect, track and trend data in order to identify opportunities for performance improvement.

  • Performs required performance appraisal on time for unit staff based on hospital job descriptions and unit based performance standards.

  • Assists in identifying, planning and implementing educational programs based on staff needs. Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs based on performance improvement.

  • Demonstrates the ability to plan contents and effectively delivers educational information of a clinical nature (as applicable) and regularly participates in direct staff learning activities.

  • Mentors staff to provide evidence based practice and clinical care.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • BLS required

  • Behavioral Health experience, along with supervisory/charge experience

  • Master’s degree preferred
