The Arc of Opportunity Direct Support Professional, Leominster - AWC in Leominster, Massachusetts
The Direct Support Professional assists the individual in normative home and community-based activities including opportunities in supporting the individual to increase exercise and wellness by assisting in the gym (when safe) and morning walks. Additional duties include increasing the individual’s development of independent living and community skills.
Schedule: Monday (6pm - 8pm), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (4pm - 8pm), Saturday ( 12pm - 4pm) / 22 hrs./week.
Direct Support Professional Essential Functions:
Knowledgeable about exercise and fitness.
Transport and accompany individual on morning walks.
Assists the individual at the gym. This includes but is not limited to helping to create simple exercise routines with the individual, assisting with machines, and offering encouragement to meet their goals.
Actively advocates for individuals served in the community and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.
Conducts oneself professionally by maintaining respect, following regulations and agency policies and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.
Attends mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned and required. Maintains all required certifications.
Cross functional communication skills, in written and oral English, which convey clear & concise information in a professional & respectful manner to individuals supported, family members/guardians, government agencies, community partners & employees.
Assistance with activities for daily living
Physical demands include: Frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and twisting
Direct Support Professional Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED Certificate
A valid driver’s license is required
Acceptable CORI/Finger printing and driving record are required at all times during employment with The Arc of Opportunity.
Use of personal vehicles is required and must meet all state requirements to include valid registration, insurance, and safety standards.
Flexible schedule required.
Direct Support Professional Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to kneel, bend and carry items.
Ability to physically assist individuals according to their needs.
Ability to sustain periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
Ability to see, speak and hear.
Direct Support Professional Mental Requirements:
Demonstrated superior communication skills, both in verbal and written English.
Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage crisis.
Computer literacy skills.
