The Cancer Registry Abstractor assists in meeting the standards for data collection of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health Cancer Registry. Duties include: demonstrating full working knowledge of the cancer program Standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, Facility Oncology Registry Data Standard, International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, 3rd Edition, American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual, 7th Edition, Collaborative Staging and Coding Manual, SEER Multiple Primary, and Histology Coding Rules; producing an electronic abstract for each patient diagnosed and/or treated at Lawrence General for cancer according to the Reportable List of diagnoses approved by the Cancer Committee; reviewing medical records to determine primary anatomic site, stage at time of diagnosis, histology and other pertinent information and documenting modes of treatment and therapy; maintaining 90% accuracy rate for all data fields, collecting all treatment and staging information performed outside Lawrence General Hospital, completing the quarterly disease index and entering cases into suspense; demonstrating working knowledge of METRIQ Cancer Registry System to produce reports and performing data analysis on cancer patients in the Lawrence General Hospital database; maintaining Certified Tumor Registrar title through National Cancer Registrars Association by earning the appropriate number of CEUs. Associates Degree and CTR required.
