TOWN OF HOPKINTON - School Department Maintenance Mechanic in Hopkinton, Massachusetts
This position performs skilled maintenance and repair work on all standard and specialized town equipment and vehicles. This position also performs skilled manual work as well as operating heavy equipment for construction, maintenance, and repair projects for the DPW. Participates in snow and ice operations. Overtime is a requirement of the position. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma; three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience as a mechanic at the journeyman level (with experience in the repair and maintenance of both light and heavy motorized equipment) or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of: Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, and techniques involved in the repair and maintenance of gasoline-powered and diesel-powered motor vehicles and equipment. Working knowledge of welding and cutting with a torch. Thorough knowledge of the repair of electrical and hydraulic systems. Thorough knowledge of safe repair practices. Working knowledge of heavy and special equipment operation and mechanics. Working knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair activities. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to: diagnose problems in and repair motor vehicles and equipment. Ability to use standard and special motor mechanic\'s tools. Ability to perform welding and brazing operations. Ability to follow proper methods, procedures, and safety precautions. Skill: Skill in the use and care of tools employed in automotive repair. Skill in operating above mentioned equipment. Skill in utilizing basic office computer software and specialized fleet maintenance systems. Required Licensing/Certification: Possession of Valid 2B Hoisting License and Class B CDL driver\'s license.
