Provides therapeutic treatment and counsels patients guiding them in the acquisition of skills and strategies for managing severe and persistent mental illness and any co-occurring substance abuse disorders and associated life stressors.
Performs individual admission assessments and participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and works collaboratively with other clinical departments to coordinate care.
Performs necessary documentation, develops and facilitates groups, performs departmental support tasks, and assists with patient related activities under the supervision of licensed staff.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the impact of psychiatric, physical, and addiction related disability upon an individual’s, as well as families’, physical, emotional, social, economic, and vocational status.
Facilitates psychotherapeutic groups of varying levels to assist individuals to develop an increased awareness and understanding of their psychiatric illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse while identifying individualized strategies they can utilize to maintain stability in the community.
Provides milieu therapy for patients with mental illness and/or substance addiction, helping them identify behaviors that impact decompensation patterns and realistic strategies to manage their symptoms and maintain recovery.
Current certification: National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
Current licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professions.
Certification in BLS of Adult, Child and Infant.
Demonstrated pursuit of continuing education courses relevant to the field of occupational therapy.
Malpractice insurance preferred.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an in‐patient crisis setting or other relevant psychiatric setting; knowledge of psychiatric, dual diagnosis and cognitive disorders preferred. Knowledge, experience and competency in dealing with adult rehabilitation and geriatric age groups, therapy techniques and philosophies.
Interpersonal ease with empathy for adult/geriatric patients with psychiatric, substance abuse and/or cognitively impaired diagnoses.
Knowledge of recreational activities (i.e. arts & crafts, games, sports).
Knowledge of facilitating functional, psychotherapy and dual diagnosis groups/interventions required.
Knowledge of Federal and State regulations and policies related to specified patient populations.
Ability to independently recognize and perform unassigned duties in context of patient, peer, and environmental needs as they arise.
Position is Per Diem with a requirement to work up (1) weekend shift monthly and (1) Holiday shift per year.
