THE PRACTICAL NURSING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The Practical Nursing Certificate program is part of GCC Department of Nursing. The PNC program is currently comprised of 3 full-time faculty members, one of whom is the program coordinator. The faculty is focused on quality and excellence in teaching and learning and is committed to fostering high standards for nursing practice. The program is held in high regard in the local community and has a long history of students exceeding the national pass rates for graduates. The PNC program delivery is located in a facility in the Florence/Northampton, MA area.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Chief Learning Officer and the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Nursing, provides academic and general administrative leadership of the Practical Nursing Certificate (PNC) education program. Responsible for day to day operation of the PNC program, collaborating with faculty on the design and delivery of the curriculum, and serving as liaison regarding space and equipment for the program. Support of the full time and adjunct faculty and staff including, but not limited to, recruiting, orienting, training, and directing department members. Includes coordinating academic requirements with outside clinical agencies and maintaining currency of clinical agreements as well as writing and submitting accreditation and yearly program assessment reports in coordination with the Assistant Dean of Nursing. Teaching responsibilities in the PNC program include: classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction in 40-week Practical Nursing Certificate Program. Provides academic advisement for approximately 10 PNC students, maintains regular office hours; serves on committees as elected or appointed; attends regularly scheduled departmental, divisional and college meetings; and performs other duties as assigned. Teaching schedule is accommodated to meet MCCC workload requirements for Program Coordinator Workload.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Facilitates the day to day operation of the PNC program as described under general statement of duties in consultation with the assistant Dean of Nursing
Administrative duties related to supervision of an off-site program; e.g., budget, admissions, clinical contracts, orientation and graduation in coordination with the Assistant Dean of Nursing
Teaches nursing courses throughout program in collaboration with other PN faculty, engaging in a variety of content areas in both didactic and clinical settings;
Coordinates with PN faculty to ensure Student Learning Outcomes are assessed:
Represents the Practical Nursing program on College committees
Advises nursing students;
Serves as a professional role model;
Develops and reviews the educational philosophy, purposes and objective of the program;
Organizes, develops and evaluates the nursing curriculum in collaboration with other PN faculty;
Develops specific criteria for the evaluation of student achievement of objectives;
Writing and submission of MA BORN reports and other reports to accrediting bodies.
Assists the Assistant Dean of Nursing in establishing national program accreditation candidacy by December 2022.
Master's Degree in Nursing
Unrestricted Massachusetts nursing license;
Minimum five (5) years of full-time clinical experience or its equivalent within the last eight (8) years, with at least three years' experience in nursing education;
Experience in working with the assessment of nursing instruction, nursing accreditation and/or state regulatory agencies;
Experience in working with other healthcare professionals and the health care industry.
Experience utilizing electronic learning platforms
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND APTITUDES:
Strong administrative skills and computer proficiency;
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
Knowledge and use of program outcome assessment measures and processes;
Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
Demonstrated record of staying current in one's field.
Demonstrated successful community college teaching experience;
Experience with curriculum development and/or test item writing;
Experience facilitating groups or managing projects;
Experience in working with and supporting unionized faculty in an academic or clinical setting;
Demonstrated experience in implementing cultural equity, diversity, and inclusion standards in the curriculum of nursing education programs;
Experience in evaluating nursing programs and curriculum outcomes and developing a plan for program improvement.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is located in a clinical setting, classroom, lab and/or office, not subject to extreme variations of temperatures, odors etc. Moderate noise. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Operates equipment i.e. Computer, calculator, copier/fax machines etc. The person in this position needs to move about inside a clinical setting, classroom, lab and/or office. Will also move about throughout the campus as needed. The person frequently communicates with students and colleagues. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. Occasional travel to and from various clinical sites and/or meetings etc.

RANK AND SALARY:Anticipated salary range is $47,620 - $65,766. The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.
