Job Requirements Minimum Education * BSN required. * Master’s degree preferred Minimum Work Experience * Education experience preferred * Critical care experience preferred * 3-4 years acute care experience preferred * Previous experience in management and/or leadership role Minimum Licenses and Certifications * Registered Nurse, Current MA RN License * AHA BLS required * AHA ACLS required * AHA PALS preferred * Preferred instructor license for CPR/ACLS/PALS or willingness to become an instructor. Essential Functions * Responds immediately to critical events * Provides leadership and follow-up during critical events such as code blue, code red and code 100 * Provides appropriate follow-up regarding staff education, documentation, family/staff support, etc * Adjusts staffing levels to ensure the highest level of patient care * Evaluates staffing needs continuously and adjusts as necessary to meet the needs of the patient for the current and next shifts * Functions as a clinical and administrative resource for the nursing staff * Provides clinical consultation, advice and education * Completes all employee performance evaluations by evaluation due dates * Assists staff with mediating conflict resolution (i.e. staff/physician, patient/physician, staff/staff) * Reports and communicates situation appropriately * Advocates for patients, families and staff * Intervenes on patient/staff behalf * Supports other departments to meet patient needs * Maintains operations of other departments during non-operating hours * Functions as an administrative resource for other departments during non-operative hours * Participates in the delivery of monthly PCS Orientation content and the follow-up of participants to ensure the transfer of skills and knowledge. To include training on the electronic medical record and other pertinent skills * Oversees/implements annual generic skills and competencies * Collaborates with the Directors, Nurse Managers and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to contribute regarding the delivery of patient care, including decision-making regarding staff learning needs, providing individual counseling & guidance for identified educational needs, evaluating the performance of employees, appropriately recommending extensions of probationary periods and/or the continued employment of staff and identifying and assisting with remediation/corrective action or performance improvement plans * Functions as a Clinical Resource/Consultant and expert clinician for staff, directors, managers, medical staff, students, clinical instructors, patients and families and throughout the healthcare system * Implements the RN Clinical Internship program * Implements in-services, educational programs related to new products, policy and procedure, and medications identified assessed needs * Participates in activities and committees related to performance improvement and nursing quality activities * Teaches CPR – BLS, ACLS, PALS and other programs * Conducts periodic formal/informal educational needs assessment and identifies resources for meeting these needs * Creates program fliers and CEU certificates for Educational opportunities provided by/through Heywood Hospital Statement of Other Duties This document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions.
