South Middlesex Opportunity Council Medical Director in Framingham, Massachusetts

Summary: The Medical Director is responsible for establishing all medical policies and procedures throughout the programs within the Behavioral Health Division, and for coordinating and supervising the practice of all medical staff including nursing and staff psychiatrists. The Medical Director oversees the compliance of the agency's medical services to applicable standards of care and provides psychiatric expertise for complex cases and quality assurance systems when needed.

This is a part time position for a maximum of 8 hours per week. The Medical Director must be available doe consultation, clinical support and participation in the medical team meeting, either onsite or remotely, to ensure the provision of high-quality care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Clinical supervision of Medical Staff

  • Establish periodic schedule for meeting with medical staff members to address service related clinical issues and provide supervision around individual cases, prescribing protocols and medication management.

  • Provide 1 hour of medical supervision per week for each of the Clinical Nurse Specialists along with 1 hour a week of group supervision

  • Coordinate delivery of psychiatric services across the behavioral health division.

  • Collaborate and meet with all medical staff to review work issues and provide supervision according to regulatory body requirements.

  • Review the behavioral health medical policies and procedures, and revise as needed, establishing policies that reflect best practices in compliance with performance specifications and industry standards.

  • Serve as primary psychiatrist on Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Review Team

  • Collaborate with staff from Residential programs and agencies to coordinate care.

  • Represent the agency in a positive manner and maintain good working relationships with other agencies and professionals.

  • Support and maintain a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation; support CEO-approved agency goals and philosophies, sharing a fundamental philosophy that enhances the agency’s global reputation within the community.

  • Communicate regularly with staff on progress toward defined goals of Senior Management team; provide specific feedback and initiate corrective action when defined goals and/or required results are not met.

  • Motivate staff to embrace the philosophies and goals of the Senior Management team.

  • Attend job related meetings; maintain regular and reliable attendance record. 

  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of the specialty.

  • Attend & participate in engagement team meetings, follow up with client service plans and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other specialty areas.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Current license as a psychiatrist with Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • Experience in working with CNS staff as prescribers.

  • Familiarity with service delivery components, mechanisms.

  • Previous medical staff leadership experience is very helpful.

Organizational Relationship: Directly reports to SBH Division Director and direct reports of this position are Medical team members.

Working Conditions: As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Medical Director will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Remote Work Option: Remote work is permissible in some positions at SMOC depending on the key functions and responsibilities. The Medical Director position is eligible to work remotely 100% of the week but should be available to be present for a period during normal business hours if notified in advance and scheduled in coordination with the department manager.
