Advocates Medical Director, Addiction Services in Framingham, Massachusetts

Overview

The Medical Director of Addiction Serviceswill provide clinical oversight and leadership as well as direct care to people with complex psychiatric and medical needs and Substance Use Disorders (SUD). They will provide oversight of Advocates Addiction Services and work with service leadership on the development and integration of evidence-based Addiction Services that meet the evolving needs of the community. They will ensure appropriate clinical supervision of advanced practice clinicians as needed, spearhead substance use related clinical quality, education, and performance improvement initiatives, clinical risk management, and support clinical best practice adoption with specific focus on furthering the integration of addiction and mental health services.

Minimum Education Required

Doctorate

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical, psychiatric, and medical-legal service and consultation to patients.

  • Provides teaching and consultation to other members of the multidisciplinary team, including students.

  • Provides collaborative leadership in diagnosis, case formulation, treatment planning, and risk management.

  • Coordinates care with other medical specialists and institutions and communicates with family members and other agencies involved as needed.

  • Actively participates in the Quality Improvement process of the division.

  • Maintains all records in accordance with the policies and procedures.

  • Practices in general accordance with the treatment philosophy of Advocates.

  • Maintains open, collaborative, and collegial relationships with other team members.

  • Attends and actively participates in supervision and staff meetings.

  • Provides on call-responsibilities, same day triage, and consultation to patients, team members, and other staff, as appropriate and needed.

  • Ensures that patients are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates Human Rights Policy.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO received from an accredited medical school.

  • Board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (candidates may be accepted if board eligible if the candidate demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Medical Director comparable experience and competence).

  • Preferred but not required: Possess and maintain a current Board Certification in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry; from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS); or from the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

  • Current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Maintains professional liability insurance coverage of a minimum of $1,000,000/$3,000,000.

  • Current valid and unrestricted DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registrations.

  • Current (or ability to obtain) practitioner waiver (“X-license”) to prescribe or dispense buprenorphine under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000).

  • Satisfactory report from the National Practitioner Data Bank.

  • Absence of Medicare/Medicaid sanctions.

  • Currently practicing a minimum of 20 hours per week, defined as direct service, supervision, or clinical administration.

  • Ability to utilize electronic health records efficiently and effectively in the provision and documentation of care.

  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
