The Arc of Opportunity Recreation Relief in Fitchburg, Massachusetts

Full Vaccination (including Booster) is an eligibility requirement for all positions unless in case of religious or medical exemption.

The Relief Recreation staff assists the program coordinator and participants in recreation and community integration. The staff accompanies the participants in weekend recreation activities including, but not limited to, theater performances, art exhibits, and sporting events. Staff for the relief recreation position are needed on Saturday afternoons between the hours of 11am-5pm, some events end at 4pm.

Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with the program director and program coordinator in delivering service standards of excellence and ensures operational compliance within the assigned program in accordance with Federal, State and agency regulations.

  • Provides transportation for individuals to community activities, including performing safe lifts and transfers of individuals who use wheelchairs and complete transportation logs.

  • Supports individuals to increase independence while safely navigating the community.

  • Actively advocates for individuals served and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.

  • Conducts oneself professionally in following regulations and agency policies and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required, experience in relevant field preferred.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record and CORI/Fingerprinting is always required during employment with The Arc of Opportunity.

  • Knowledgeable about community resources to better assist individuals served in achieving their goals while seeking to empower and enhance their quality of life.

  • Ability to transfer, change, shower assist with toileting and all personal care needs of the individuals supported.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, in verbal and written English, which convey concise information in a professional and respectful manner to individuals supported, family member/guardians, peers, government agencies, community partners and employees.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to kneel, bend, push and carry items.

  • Ability to physically assist individuals according to their needs and perform physical restraint if necessary.

  • Ability to sustain periods of walking, standing, and sitting.

  • Computer literacy skills.

  • Ability to see, speak and hear.
