Health First WIC Program Assistant in Fall River, Massachusetts

Health First Family Care Center, Inc. The Heart of the Community has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and professional WIC Program Assistant to join our fast-paced team within a growing community health center. HealthFirst Family Care Center, Inc. provides comprehensive services including medical care, dental care, and gastroenterology services, health education, health assessment and screenings. The Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program keeps pregnant and breastfeeding women and kids under 5 healthy by providing healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and other services, free of charge, to Massachusetts families who qualify. Schedule (40 Hours Per Week) Mon, Thurs, Fri: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Tues, Wed: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm OR 10:00 am - 6:30 pm Rotating Saturdays once a month 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Summary Under the direction of the WIC Director/Senior Nutritionist, the WIC Program Assistant is responsible for participating in eligibility determination, benefit issuance, quality assurance, and general office duties for the Fall River WIC Program. This position also includes answering phones, directing calls, answering questions and screening potential participants for eligibility; handle appointment scheduling and rescheduling; greet and check in participants; prepares charts with appropriate forms and maintain records; pull and file charts for active, pending, and terminating participants; verify category, identity, income, and residency to determine WIC eligibility; collect and enter participant demographic data; and anthropometric and hematological data collection. Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience High School Diploma or G.E.D. Fluent in English and Portuguese and/or Spanish required Interest in nutrition and health care Sensitive to the needs of participant population Availability and flexibility to work at multiple WIC sites and during evening and weekend clinic hours, as needed One year of general office experience with computer responsibilities or some formal education in computer management systems Good communication skills required, including efficiency in written and oral English Must submit a CORI release form and demonstrate proof of being free from disqualifying information Competencies Projects positive attitude about the department and the health center Ability to maintain an organized work area and work collaboratively as a member of a team Must possess good oral and written communication skills and time management skills to effectively communicate Ensure confidentiality and security of information and sensitivity to the needs of the participant population Ability to use computer, internet, and learn new systems Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work positively with participants, staff, and other agencies Knowledge on referrals and services, ability to research and openness to learn Ensure thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail in record keeping, scheduling and follow- up while maintaining efficiency All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
