Position is eligible for a $6,000 sign on bonus

Directing the overall operation and administration of the laboratory, including the employment of personnel who are competent to perform test procedures, record and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently, and assure compliance with the applicable regulations. Ensure that testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing. Assist the principal investigator on contract duties. This includes organization of contracted work review of quality control records to ensure compliance and attendance at Principle Investigator's meetings.

Designs and develops research work done in the HLA Laboratory in order to make productive advances in the fields of Immunogenetics and/or Histocompatibility, which are consistent with the overall goals of the American Red Cross Blood Services.

Ensures that HLA Services remain current and knowledgeable of recent advances in the fields of Immunogenetics, Histocompatibility and Molecular Biology.

Prepares research publications, grant requests and regularly scheduled research progress reports, manuscripts summarizing projects and results for review and publication in professional journals.

Assists in maintaining high quality, reliable and cost effective clinical HLA testing services.

Provides technical support for clinical HLA testing services. This includes, but is not limited to:

Review of necessary test reports, quality control and compliance with ASHI standards

Help resolve difficult or unusual clinical testing problems

Reviews and updates procedures as necessary to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, National Red Cross Blood Services Directives (BSD's), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) standards and New England Regional policies and procedures.

Organizes and directs special projects to evaluate, improve and/or develop new test procedures, techniques and reagents, some of which may be offered as clinical services. Collects and analyzes data, interprets results and adjusts course of project as necessary.

Ensure that the technical staff participates in continuing education relevant to histocompatibility and/or immunogenetics testing at least to the level of the minimum requirements outlined by the ASHI Accreditation Review Board. Acts as a resource in the field to staff members and area hospitals and participates in HLA workshops.

Participates in meetings and seminars to present own work and discuss research of others.

Ensures that customer satisfaction is given top priority at all times.

Seeks new accounts, contracts and services to ensure the continued success of the laboratory.

Qualifications:

Requires a M.D. or Ph.D. degree. This position requires an extensive working knowledge of a broad range of areas: HLA-ABC, DR and DQ serology; cell culture techniques;cross matching for platelets and solid organ support molecular testing techniques; PCR; oligonucleotide hybridization, DNA sequencing as well as in depth knowledge of other areas in the field of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.

Requires 4 years of experience in all phases of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. Must be certified by ASHI as a qualified Director or be eligible for certification.

Requires demonstrated written and verbal communications skills.
