The Coaching Kitchen Coordinator provides experiential culinary opportunities consistent with the nutrition philosophy, values, and vision of Walden Behavioral Care (WBC). This position is responsible for overseeing and leading hands-on culinary experiences, leading menu planning groups and assisting the nutrition team in menu entry. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Nutrition.

Hours/Shift:

32 hours/week, must have flexibility for occasional evening/weekend pending program needs

Responsibilities Include:

Coaching Kitchen

  • Collaborates with Lead Residential Registered Dietitian to plan and develop Coaching Kitchen menus for the adult residential program, consistent with WBC’s nutrition philosophy.

  • Coordinates and leads weekly Coaching Kitchen groups for the adult residential program, focusing on principles such as basic food preparation and cooking skills, variety of ingredient use and recipes, curiosity and flexibility when approaching food preparation, increasing eating competency skill sets.

  • Coordinate with the Food and Nutrition Services Director to obtain ingredients, supplies, and special-order items as indicated.

  • Assists Food and Nutrition Services Director with maintenance and implementation of food safety practices in the Coaching Kitchen (proper PPE, checking temps, FIFO, sanitizing, etc.).

  • Seeks out ways to expand frequency of Coaching Kitchen to reach a larger volume of clients and or adapt Coaching Kitchen activities to meet needs of the milieu (i.e. cultural awareness, food allergens, etc.).

  • Active involvement in the Garden Committee includes planning for and selecting of produce to be grown for use in the Coaching Kitchen Recipes

  • Instructing clients on harvesting fresh produce for use in recipes.

Clinical

  • Facilitates 1-2 nutrition groups per week and completes appropriate electronic medical record documentation.

  • Leads post Coaching Kitchen meal processing.

  • Group meal coaching.

Administrative

  • Entering patient menus into Food Service Software, screening for adherence to program guidelines, nutrition philosophy, and individualized meal plan prescription.

  • Maintaining Coaching Kitchen Curriculum and schedule, standardizing recipe formats, refreshing recipes as indicated.

  • Other projects as needed per Lead Residential Registered Dietitian or Director of Clinical Nutrition.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in nutritional sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts or related field.

  • Experience including but not limited to leading culinary groups/classes, menu development, managing food allergies, preferred.

  • Experience working in the eating disorder field, preferred.

  • Ability to bend and lift 25 pounds.

  • CPR certification, required.

  • ServSafe Certification, preferred.

  • Allergy Awareness Certification, preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize independently.

  • Ability to multitask and function well in a fast paced mental health environment.
