State of Massachusetts Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor in Danvers, Massachusetts

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated professionals to apply for the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor Position. This position coordinates and supervises the delivery of Recreational Therapy services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that are living at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Develops and implements safe and consistent treatment plans and programs for individuals living at Hogan by designing recreational activities selected to achieve individual specific objectives and needs through the provision of individual and group activities, leisure education services, community reintegration and therapeutic programs. * Develops and maintains community relationships with regard to the use of the recreation building at Hogan. Schedule time used at the recreation building. * Develops and maintains programs that will specialize in the treatment of mental or physical disabilities (i.e.) creative arts, sports, aquatics, adventure programming, dance/movement, community outings. * Coordinates the delivery of Unit Recreation Therapy services by providing direct clinical and administrative supervision to Recreation Therapy staff, student interns and volunteers, and clinical consultation to residential staff in order to ensure compliance with Title XIX mandates and standards. * Supervises the development and implementation of Recreatin Therapy programs through the ISP process, by review of individual skill assessments, evaluations and progress by monitoring programs and progress notes, by conducting meetings to ensure program effectiveness. * Conducts and coordinates competency-based training by providing orientation and training services to staff by determining unit staff needs and by participating in Department Professional Development programs to assure quality services are provided to individuals. * Manages recreation Therapy purchases by determining purchasing priorities, by developing budget proposals by requisitioning supplies and equipment; by securing all purchases and by overseeing the use of resources/activity areas to ensure appropriate use of areas and resources. * Participates in the selection, hire and evaluation of RT staff; participates in meetings and the development of department goals; prepares reports, statistics, and special projects in order to assure quality control. * Reviews staff clinical documentation for compliance to standards, to assure quality control. * Is part of the On-Call rotation for the facility. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy or related field, with a preference for a candidate who is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS). * Ability to develop and maintain strong community relations. * Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff. * Excellent supervisory and organizational skills. * Experience adapting sports * Ability to flex schedule for the needs of the facility by working nights and weekends as needed for events * Experience with Intellectual and Physical Disabilities * Excellent interpersonal; ability to relate with individuals at all levels. * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. * Excellent computer skills, (Microsoft Word and Excel). _About the Agency:_ The Department of Developmental Services is dedicated to creating, in partnership with others, innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in, and contribute to, their communities as valued members. _Total Compensation_: As an employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are offered a great career opportunity influencing a wide-spectrum of services to the diverse populations we serve - but it is more than a paycheck. Friday 9-5:30 Days Off: Saturday and Sunday The incumbent must have weekend and evening flexibility to meet the needs of the facility, including participating in rotating On-call responsibilities for the facility. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, financial management, or professional experience in a particular specialty (i.e. scientific, professional, or technical) or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment. * * Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management, public administration, financial management, or degree related directly to the specialty may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
