Emerson Hospital *** Medical Assistant - On the Job Training in Concord, Massachusetts

The Medical Assistant reports to the Office Manager and works under the clinical supervision of the physician. The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant is to ensure efficient patient flow through the office and support the physician with clinical duties. At times, the Medical Assistant may support the front office team with additional clerical tasks. Adheres to proper phone screening procedures for patients. Escorts patients during visit to ensure appropriate social distancing. Prepares, cleans and sterilizes treatment rooms, equipment, instruments and other areas of the office following outlined cleaning procedures. Ensures clean room indicator is in place. Follows appropriate donning and doffing of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Follows patient identification policy and procedure as well as maintains and supports patient?s rights to care, privacy and respect. Accurately documents patient medical information into appropriate systems such as, intake questions, vital signs, flow sheets, items/equipment dispensed to the patient, update/edit medication and problem lists. Performs maintenance and quality checks on medical/laboratory equipment/instruments. Keeps inventories of necessary office and medical supplies and ensures security of all medications. Maintains and supports patient\'s rights to care, privacy and respect. Prepares exam room for patient. Prepares patients for physician consultation and testing. Accurately documents patient medical information into appropriate systems such as, intake questions, vital signs, flow sheets, items/equipment dispensed to the patient. Collects/prepares lab specimens. Assists physician during examination. Triage and return patient phone calls under the direction of a physician. Identifies opportunities, such as efficiency or effectiveness, to contribute to team. As necessary, assists Clinical Office Coordinator with all functions and may perform some duties in his/her absence including but not limited to greeting patients and answering phones. Flexible in filling openings at other EPA locations as requested. Communicates effectively with staff and physicians to advance care. Promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner. Calls to follow up with patients regarding results following physician?s evaluation of tests at the direction of a physician. Education - High School diploma or GED, associate degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program a plus. Experience- A minimum of one-year experience in a Medical Assistant position is preferred. Licensure and/or Certification- CPR and Basic Life Support certification preferred Nursing Assistant or other academic preparation preferred.
