POSITION SUMMARY :
The Physical Therapy Assistant performs all exercises and procedures established and supervised by the Physical Therapist. Patient care is provided in the patient’s home in accordance with the plan of care developed by the Registered Physical Therapist.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Document, within time frames, observations, patient's response to treatment, treatment programs, degree of progress and notable changes in patient condition.
Communicate and coordinates patient care with other members of the patient's health care team.
Provide patient and family teaching related to the patient's physical therapy program and patient/family engagement in goal achievement.
Provide physical therapy interventions in accordance with physician's orders and accepted evidence-based professional practices.
Assist the patient and / or family to procure needed equipment or supplies.
Utilize appropriate hand washing, standard precautions and personal protective equipment.
Keeps knowledge of physical therapy theory and practice current and acquires new skills as needed by attendance at workshops, courses, in-services, etc.
Demonstrate proficiency with administrative objective standardized tests and measures and compliance with regulatory standards.
Maintains required licensure, certifications and vaccinations as required
Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program - required
Licensed as a PTA Massachusetts - required
Current State of Residence driver's license and reliable transportation - required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primary work will be performed in the patient’s place of residence, may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
Possible exposure to infections, diseases and bloodborne pathogens
Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
Subject to hostile and emotionally upset family members, personnel and visitors
May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Required to travel to multiple work sites.
