State of Massachusetts Chief of Medicine in Canton, Massachusetts

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and skilled physician to serve as Chief of Medicine (COM). The selected candidate will develop, implement, and direct the scope of all pediatrics, educational, and administrative programs, and services for the medical department. The COM will establish and maintain standards for medical services and practices, provide leadership to the hospital’s Pediatric and Adolescent Department, Medical Specialty Consultants and Complimentary Alternative Medicine, and Employee Health and the Specialty Department. The incumbent will oversee a variety of responsibilities including patient assessment and care, leadership management of medical departments, hospital-wide policy reviews, committee chairing, and liaison with external entities. The ideal candidate should have experience working with pediatric population, specifically those with multiple disabilities, formal experience in Medico-administrative duties, experience using electronic medical records, supervising Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and other medical providers, and experience with The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service regulations. /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ * Aligns medical department and direct reports with PRHC vision, sets performance objectives, and provides leadership to Medical Services Direct reports in accordance with DPH and hospital mission, clinical service needs, educational programs, and business requirements. * Serves as the Primary Care Physician for patient units, providing medical case management, participation in grand rounds and on-call rotation, and leading unit meetings. * Supervise direct and indirect reports to ensure they are performing their duties at the highest level of their licenses to the best of their abilities and within their scope of practice. * Maintain appropriate staffing levels for all assigned departments in accordance with clinical service plans. * Ensure patient care is provided at the highest quality possible and that all documentation related to patient care is completed in a timely and accurate manner. * Act as a medical staff representative, when appropriate, with review and approval of hospital and non-medical services policies and procedures, when required. * Develop, maintain, and edit medical department policies and procedures. * Serve as a liaison between pediatric staff and other hospital departments; Liaise between pediatric staff and Brayton School. * Provide staff, patient, and/or family education regarding medical issues and treatments to ensure that they are well-informed and can make informed decisions. * Review monthly orders for assigned units and provide feedback to direct reports. * Recommend program changes to ensure compliance with accrediting organization regulations; ensure that the hospital remains in compliance. * Liaises with external entities with which hospital business is conducted, including patient referral sources, public and non-profit clinical partners, professional organizations, academic programs, and community relations. * Participates in professional meetings, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs. /_Required Qualifications:_/ * Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. * Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties in area of Pediatrics. * Extensive experience with pediatric populations, particularly those with multiple disabilities. * Familiarity with diagnostic and treatment methods and techniques utilized in pediatrics. * Proficient in Medico-administrative duties with prior experience in this area. * Competent in utilizing electronic medical records, with a preference for Meditech. * Supervisory experience with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other medical providers. * Proficient in The Joint Commission (TJC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) regulations and surveys. * Knowledgeable in medical education techniques and current regulations of the Mass Board of Registration in Medicine. * In-depth understanding of medical staff functions, implementation, and applications with a special focus on quality assurance, peer review, physician accreditation, and required committee activities. * Knowledgeable in treatment options for developmentally challenged children and adolescents. * Prior experience in policy development and implementation. /_Preferred Qualifications:_/ * 8-10 years of clinical experience as a practicing pediatrician. * Experience in a leadership role, such as Division Chief or Department Chair. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Physicians, Nurses, therapists, dieticians, and other healthcare disciplines to achieve productive outcomes. * Familiarity with the latest technological advancements in pediatric medicine and healthcare delivery systems. * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to staff, patients, and families. * Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of healthcare professionals. * Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and performance management. * Strong written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, and Word. /_About Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC):_/ Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90 bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 8–22) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as, K-12 schooling, located on the grounds.
