State of Massachusetts Assistant Director of Nursing- Registered Nurse VI in Canton, Massachusetts

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) is seeking a dynamic nursing professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Nursing. PRHC is a Joint Commission accredited pediatric hospital operated under the direction of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH). The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitating and interdisciplinary transitional services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve an optimal life of independence in all aspects of life. The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a vital leadership position that ensures appropriate utilization and delivery of high quality and innovative services to children and young adults with physical disabilities and co-morbid conditions that are effective, compassionate, and focused on rehabilitative integration across a spectrum of medical and allied health disciplines. The selected candidate plans, organizes, directs and evaluates Nursing Services for the patients of PRHC in providing leadership and clinical direction to the departments of nursing. The ADON serves as a member of several of the hospital’s Committee, and participates in utilization review, treatment teams, administration and medical staff to provide for bed availability commensurate with staffing levels and acuity appropriate to care for patient population. Please note: This is a 40 hour per week position on the 1st shift, with Saturday and Sunday off. Employees in this position will be required to work mandatory overtime. __ _Duties and Responsibilities__ (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Provide strategic oversight and direction of all patient care, needs assessments, nursing diagnosis, and oversees clinical management of patients; develop metrics for the evaluation of patient care service, quality improvement and refinement of all aspects of service delivery. * Consult with managers and staff relative to patient care issues and serves as an advisory resource to abate or resolve problems/issues. * Utilizes internal and external resources to incorporate new technology and trends to enhance and improve quality of services. * Participate in regular labor management meetings and recommends/tracks employee relations issues. * Assess and adapt policies and procedures that address the hospital’s evolving mission and demographics while adhering to regulatory agency requirements. * Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to enrich the recruitment, retention and continuing education of the nursing staff; communicate and interpret policies and procedures to staff. * Oversees, monitors & participates in the evaluation of the work performance of all nursing personnel and facilitate ongoing feedback/appraisal. * Designs and advocates for staff development opportunities for line staff that offers growth and career advancement potential. * Establish quality and efficiency standards in all areas of responsibility and ensure that these standards are measured and reviewed on an ongoing basis * Champion a positive image of the Nursing Department through effective interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, community, providers and the general public. * Enhance professional growth/development to keep abreast of the latest trends in pediatric/public health; remain current on issues and trends impacting healthcare. * Maintain nursing services operations within established budget. * Support senior leadership in the development and implementation of strategic plans, capital plans, short-term strategic initiatives, objectives and long-term goals for the nursing teams. * Provide continuous quality of care which maximizes the effectiveness of clinical practice, nursing process and safety of staff and patients. * Develop strategies to maintain and improve interdisciplinary communication, collaboration and cooperation. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Five (5) years senior-level management experience in a hospital/healthcare setting * Proficient understanding of principles and practices of pediatric and adult nursing including modern long-term care and theories of public health and public health nursing. * Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. * Previous experience in The Joint Commission and CMS surveys. * Ability to establish relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians and staff members. * Proven experience in all aspects of quality improvement in a healthcare setting. * In depth understand of labor laws and managing across multiple collective bargaining agreements. * Commitment to cultivating a diverse, inclusive and supportive environment for both patients and staff. * Strong technology skills and experience working with electronic medical records (Meditech and Meta systems). * Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook. /_About Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC):_/ Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90 bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 8–22) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Substitutions: 1. A Graduate degree with a major in nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
