VETERINARY TECHNICIAN, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) (multiple openings), to provide clinical veterinary support for animals (primarily mice) housed at MIT and provide colony management and technical services. Specific duties include completing daily clinical rounds; assessing and monitoring the health of laboratory animals and reporting necessary information to supervisors, the clinical veterinarian, and the researchers; completing food/water regulation and post-surgery safeguard monitoring; providing colony management services such as birth dating pups, weaning, ear tagging, tailing, skin biopsy for genotyping, setting up breeding pairs, and recordkeeping; providing technical services upon request; performing injections (subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous) and blood collection (cardiocentesis, submandibular, intravenous); and collecting samples for routine sentinel testing.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ related experience; animal handling experience; self-motivation; strong time-management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and proficiency with Microsoft Office. PREFERRED: experience with anesthesia administration and pre- and post-operative animal care; an undergraduate degree in animal science, biology, or related field; and AALAS certification.
