Job Summary

We are looking for a Veterinary Technician II to join our Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) team in Cambridge, MA .

What you will do!

In the Veterinary Technician II role , you have the responsibility of performing routine clinical observations and treatments to animals in our stewardship. You will create and submit internal/external reports, review, and follow-up with the veterinary team on open health cases. In this role you will take tissue samples and conduct routine animal manipulations (e.g., dosing), and administration of fluids or other treatments as required. In addition, you will perform or obtain proficiency in specialized model support such as surgical support, post-op surgical care, and study model clinical scoring for treatment plans and endpoint evaluation. The role will give you the opportunity to recommend and perform diagnostic procedures including tissue collection and necropsy. You will act as a leader for less experienced veterinary and/or training staff and participate in onboarding new employees, as well as being an ongoing mentor, including cage-side and weekly rounds to review cases with veterinary staff.

As the Veterinary Technician II you will perform staff proficiency or researcher competency assessments as assigned, perform routine reconciliation and audit of controlled substances, and may be assigned to perform technical services on behalf of clients, and training on techniques to researchers or members of CRADL staff. Additionally, you will implement the routine health surveillance program according to CRADL SOPs, ensure all samples are collected/submitted correctly, and ensure results are returned and reviewed. Finally, you review and approve health reports from routine health surveillance within the vivarium, escalating results for veterinarian review when needed.

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses an associate degree or bachelor’s degree or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline. A minimum of 2-3 years of veterinary experience and 6-12 months directly related industry of laboratory animal research facility. LAT certification from AALAS, LATG, CVT, LVT, or RVT preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay range for this position is $33-37 USD per hour . Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
