SUPERVISOR FOR ADVANCED VETERINARY TECHNICAL SERVICES, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to supervise and coordinate advanced veterinary technical services in support of DCM and research activities under the direction of the veterinary technical services manager and working with the advanced veterinary technical services supervisor. This will include sample collection from animals, administration of treatments to animals, basic surgery, and other in vivo research techniques. Will coordinate the efforts for investigators requiring training on advanced technical services as well as providing services as needed; serve as liaison between DCM and investigators using animals; conduct lab visits to assess procedure spaces; supervise investigators to ensure proficiency and compliance consistent with Institute and local, state, federal requirements; work with research investigators to determine what advanced technical services they need and with veterinarian and research staff to develop new techniques as needed to fulfill researcher needs; work with the supervisor for veterinary technical services and colony management to ensure that veterinary technicians and investigators are proficient in the assessment of small animal health and welfare, ensuring proper health records are being monitored and kept, that SOP-dictated or veterinarian prescribed treatments are being administered effectively, and that proper follow up is provided; coordinate all recordkeeping; and provide training on advanced techniques.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: two years’ applicable experience in a laboratory animal research or other veterinary setting, including experience training others; and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. PREFERRED: undergraduate degree in animal science, biology, or related field; animal handling and advanced-level technical experience; CVT or LAT certification; and supervisory experience.
