Decoding The Role:

Editas Medicine is seeking an accomplished Scientist to join our Molecular Biology & Gene Editing group. This individual will support the design and execution of novel engineered gene editing technologies by leveraging their expertise in molecular biology techniques, such as plasmid design and various molecular cloning techniques. The Scientist will play a key role in evolving the current and next generation of gene editing platforms at Editas.

Characterizing Your Impact:

As the Scientist II, Molecular Biology & Gene Editing, you will:

  • Be part of a dedicated team to develop innovative gene editing platform technologies.

  • Design and execute directed evolution and/or rational design processes to engineer gene editing technologies with desired properties, including precision genomic editing technologies.

  • Design and construct libraries using rational and combinational molecular biology methods.

  • Develop in vitro or cell-based high throughput screening methods for functional readout.

  • Build assays to quantify and measure efficacy and specificity of novel gene editing technologies in vivo and in vitro.

  • Provide training, scientific and personnel management for junior team members.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

Qualifications

· Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field

  • 2+ years of industry experience in molecular biology or a related field

  • Molecular and cell biology expertise including plasmid design and library preparation, molecular cloning techniques such as Gibson assembly and golden gate cloning, primer design, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA and RNA purification, in vitro transcription, LNP formulation, qPCR/RT-qPCR, ddPCR/RT-ddPCR, and flow cytometry.

  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, transfections, and cell-based assays

  • Experience working with CRISPR and non-viral (LNP) and/or viral (AAV, lentivirus) delivery vectors

  • Familiarity with DNA analysis software such as VectorNTI, Geneious, Benchling

Fundamentals That Set You Apart

· Preferably knowledge in genetic diseases, precision gene editing, and gene therapy.

  • Experience in protein structure-function study, protein engineering, and directed evolution.

  • An ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
