Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or one to two years related lab or work experience preferred (not including relevant course work).

  • Must be very highly organized and capable of multi-tasking, have excellent communication skills, and be a team player.

  • Previous experience in mouse husbandry/handling and cellular and molecular biology lab techniques preferred.

  • May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment. May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

Additional Information:This is a two-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.

The Gu laboratory is focused on understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying the blood brain barrier and neurovascular coupling. To bridge the fields of neuroscience, immunology, and vascular biology, we utilize a wide range of in vivo and in vitro approaches. These include mouse genetics, molecular, biochemical, and cell biology techniques, and a variety of in vivo live imaging strategies. The laboratory is comprised of several diverse projects, with a rich educational environment across many fields of biology.

This role is primarily in lab management and organization. Primary skills will include project support, organizing lab space, helping lab members with instrument and material procurement, establishing protocols, managing animal protocols, interfacing with vendors, and preparing reagents. There will be additional opportunities to be involved in lab research. We are looking for someone who not only has a passion for science, but an understanding of the importance of lab organization, and a deep interest in helping the lab function at its highest level. Though flexible, the individual, in the beginning, will spend about 80% of their time managing the lab and 20% of their time working supporting graduate students and post-docs on research projects. This role is essential in making sure the lab is well-stocked with supplies and reagents, up to standard with various department codes and protocols, and functioning overall. After the initial period, the individual will be able to streamline the lab managing part of the job and spend more time on research projects. The ideal candidate should be very well organized, self-motivated, assertive, and able to take on responsibility in group settings. By managing and working with a team of scientists, the individual will gain training as a scientist, research experience, time management, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to take on leadership roles in a fast-paced lab environment.
