College background in Biology, Chemistry, or other science-related field and one year directly related experience that includes tissue culture or mouse work in a research setting.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

BA/BS preferred.

Demonstrated abilities in basic laboratory techniques (cell culture, cell biology, histology, handling/breeding mice) helpful, but not required. Experience with mouse disease models is highly desirable. Must be familiar with the operation of standard lab equipment and with lab safety and biosafety procedures. Ability to work independently, proficiency with web-based applications, databases and excellent organizational, and time management skills are essential for this role. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work in a collaborative team environment are required.

Additional Information:

This is a two- year grant funded term position with the possibility of extension based on availability of continued funding.

Some weekend flexibility may be required.

Under direction, research assistant will carry out standard laboratory protocols (for example, mouse behavioral assays, human neuronal cell cultures, histology, and standard molecular and cell biological techniques), collect and record experimental data, analyze results, and perform general laboratory support tasks.

Research assistant is also expected to attend and actively participate in laboratory and research team meetings.

Job Summary:

This position is part of a highly collaborative group of scientists in Dr. Michael Segel's laboratory who are using in vivo and in vitro models to study neurodegeneration and aging and to identify potential therapeutics that prevent or reverse cognitive decline. This position will assist postdoctoral fellow(s) and perform projects to characterize the effects of therapeutic agents on aging mouse brains. Cell culture studies will also be carried out to assess the effects of those agents.
