Transports patients, charts, specimens, equipment and supplies appropriate to the Transport Department responsibilities are efficiently transported throughout the hospital complex.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  1. Performs routine patient transport between nursing units, diagnostic areas, doctors' suites, morgue, and other areas of the hospital

  2. Performs transport of blood and other specimens on both a Stat and routine basis.

  3. Delivers patient equipment, various supply items, and audiovisual equipment, and exchanges various gas tanks and other items as needed.

  4. Receives direction from Transport Supervisor, Dispatcher, or designee.

  5. Ensure all equipment: stretchers, and wheelchairs are properly stored after each use.

  6. Ensures all linen is removed and 02 bottles are secured after each use.

  7. Ensures that all stretcher pads and wheelchairs are disinfected before and after a patient who is on precautions.

  8. Follows established protocols and procedures in the identification of patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to read, understand English, and have basic arithmetic skills normally acquired through the completion of high school or G.E.D. equivalency.

  2. Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  3. Capable of routine heavy lifting, pushing, bending, carrying, and walking constantly.

Physical Requirements & Environment:

  1. Exposure to various environmental conditions due to extensive travel throughout the hospital.

  2. Potential exposure to infectious diseases, safety problems, and other health care hazards.

  3. Normal patient care environment.
