This is a grant-funded two-year term position with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the continued availability of funding.
May be required to work with and handle lab-based animals
May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment.
May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior lab personnel, the laboratory technician will support research activities in one or more of the following areas: mouse genetics and husbandry; neuronal microsurgery, postoperative care, and behavior; tissue processing, CLARITY, microscopy and image analysis; molecular biology, including cloning and CRISPR gene editing.
Working within specific guidelines and under specific direction from supervisors and other research staff, Research Assistant will:
Perform laboratory experiments using developed approaches. Assist in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques, protocols, and new approaches;
In coordination with senior lab personnel, maintain and genotype mouse lines, perform neuronal microsurgeries, postoperative care, tissue processing and imaging;
Analyze experimental data, and troubleshoot experimental protocols to ensure successful and timely project completion;
Document, compile, and assist with interpreting experimental data. Report data to supervisor and team;
Process, organize, and summarize data using scientific, word processing, statistical software applications, and the Adobe creative package;
Participate in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs;
Instruct and assist other staff and students in basic laboratory techniques including standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture techniques, microscopy, and/or animal care;
Perform related lab duties such as maintaining and cleaning equipment, preparing common stock solutions, maintaining the animal colony, assisting in the acquisition of animals, and ordering supplies.

The Macklis Lab is directed toward (1) understanding molecular controls and mechanisms over neuron sub-type development, diversity, axon guidance-circuit formation, and degeneration in the cerebral cortex and (2) applying developmental controls toward both brain and spinal cord regeneration and directed differentiation for in vitro therapeutic and mechanistic screening.
