HISTOLOGIST, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) (part-time, 20 hrs/wk.), to support DCM’s diagnostic and research function by obtaining and preparing a variety of animal tissues for microscopic examination by pathologists and researchers. Will communicate with appropriate personnel regarding the scheduling, processing, and completion of histology work; contribute to the daily operations of the Histology Laboratory, including embedding, staining, special staining, immunohistochemistry, coverslipping, and automatic processes related to these tasks; assist with troubleshooting of instrumentation, development of laboratory policy and procedures, and ensuring quality control and quality assurance standards; perform weekly rodent necropsies as part of division's routine animal health colony surveillance protocols; and provide technical assistance in rodent phenotyping and/or research necropsies as needed with pathologist oversight.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least one year of experience working in a histology laboratory; ability to plan and meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision; excellent organizational and communication skills. PREFERRED: B.S. from an accredited educational institution, certification as a histotechnologist or histologic technician (HTL/HT) by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP), proficiency with immunohistochemistry and frozen sectioning, and rodent necropsy experience.
