Health Fitness Assistant (part-time)
HealthFitness has an exciting new opportunity for a part-time (25 hours per week) Health Fitness Assistant within our MIT campus recreation program located in Cambridge, Massachusetts! In this position, you will provide exercise floor supervision, interact with members and program participants, and assist in the delivery of health and fitness programs and services, promotions and outreach activities. You will be responsible for providing outstanding service to members and program participants to maximize participation, outcomes and customer satisfaction. Hours: 5:30am-10:30am, Monday through Friday.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the fitness floor to include: acting as primary contact providing customer service via the telephone, email, and in person.
Responsible for opening the fitness center and serving as a backup to the Lifeguard and the Member Services Representative.
Clean and maintain equipment 50% of time on shift. Stocks cleaning supplies, as needed.
Maintains order and appearance of all fitness center equipment.
Inspects equipment and reports any unsafe conditions or maintenance needs.
Completes the hourly participation counts.
Performs integral part in the group exercise attendance tracking and procedures.
Takes the initiative to tend to any areas in need of attention.
Has knowledge of and enforces fitness center policies as listed in the employee manual and membership handbook.
Communicate and relay information, concerns, and feedback to the fitness team.
Reports to work on time and in the proper uniform.
Ensures patron safety by remaining knowledgeable and providing instruction on the proper use of fitness center equipment.
Maintains a visibly positive and approachable composure to promote patron and employee interaction.
Attends all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
Remains current in American Red Cross Lifeguard training certification and is knowledgeable in all emergency procedures of Alumni/Wang.
Actively promotes all fitness center initiatives, programs and operations.
Projects and other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or related discipline OR industry recognized certifications in Group Exercise (ACSM, ACE or AFAA) and/or Personal Training (ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM, or ACSM) and 2+ years of related industry experience.
Ability to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard training certification (prerequisite 300 yard swim, brick test) prior to start date.
Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including at minimum Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm, initiative and creativity.
