BASIC SUMMARY:

Manages, administers and coordinates the health care and maintenance of research animals. Provides leadership and technical expertise to staff and client for policy and decision making. Provides veterinary consulting services in support of the Insourcing Solutions business client.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports and participates in the health care and maintenance of research animals at client site.

  • Utilizing knowledge of contemporary laboratory animal medicine and science and veterinary clinical medicine and resources, collaborates with research investigators and staff.

  • Ensure facilities are in compliance with local regulations.

  • Write, review and update veterinary care SOP’s and guidance documents as required.

  • Work with client management to establish veterinary and animal care standards.

  • Participate in the training of the site personnel and investigator staff on technical procedures and veterinary techniques as appropriate.

  • Provide clinical and surgical support to facility staff and client

  • Provide technical advice to facilitate protocol development. Assist clients with development of research protocols and IACUC submissions

  • In collaboration with client staff, assist client in the refinement of animal care and use techniques. Consistently interact and communicate with investigators and research staff during ongoing research studies, monitor results and recommend modifications or provide training as needed.

  • Confers with client and staff regarding the type of animal research conducted and provides advice on veterinary clinical considerations, animal health and welfare, training, procedures, numbers and/or care of the animals.

  • May supervise veterinary technician(s) or other veterinary staff, including assisting with recruitment writing timely annual performance reviews, and encouraging professional development.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Work requires completion of an accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program or a certificate of training accepted by the AVMA.

Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years related experience in the field of Laboratory Animal medicine required.

Certification/Licensure: Licensure (DVM) to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States is required.
