Supports the mission of the department by ensuing that the right patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of an inpatient pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care units. Accurately fills medications, delivers medications, and compounds non-sterile medications as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Completes code cart inspections and exchanges in a timely manner. Answers telephone calls, triaging requests, and following through with appropriate action. Maintains appropriate inventory levels in area of practice by performing cycle counts, rotating stock, checking for expired medications, informing pharmacy buyer when inventory levels are low, and checking in wholesaler order. Compounds medications, as needed, in accordance with departmental procedures. In conjunction with other technician colleagues and supervisors, ensures that all drug distribution functions are completed in a safe and timely manner; informs pharmacist and/or other supervisors of any workflow issues. Delivers medications in an accurate and timely manner. Accurately fills medications from the list provided by the automated dispensing machine. Checks for correct strengths Checks for expiration dates Accurately delivers to the automated dispensing cabinets Delivers medication to the patient care units in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and MA Board of pharmacy regulation. Organizational Requirements: Maintain strict adherence to the Lahey Health Confidentiality policy Incorporate Lahey Health Standards of Behavior and Guiding Principles into daily activities. Comply with all Lahey Health Policies. Comply with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Health.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

State of Massachusetts Licensed Technician

Experience:

Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Experience with Epic electronic health record preferred

Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the handling and distribution of controlled substances and hazardous materials preferred

English communication skills including oral and written comprehension and expression?

An understanding of standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications

Math skills
