The athletic trainer is a member of the school’s athletic department, reports to the athletic director, and works closely with students, coaches, and parents to provide sports-related injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services. This role is critical in ensuring a safe and supportive athletic environment. This is a 10-month position generally providing coverage on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:00 PM through 5:00 PM for a total of 20 hours per week. Additional weekend and after-school hours may be required, particularly on game days or tournaments.
Key Responsibilities Athletic Training:
Assess, treat, and manage athletic injuries and conditions. Develop and implement injury prevention programs.
Establish, communicate, and implement protocols to assist with preventing and rehabilitating student athletes’ injuries.
Act as the primary resource to conduct initial on-site assessment and treatment of student athletes’ injuries or illnesses.
Provide immediate care and first aid in case of sports-related injuries or emergencies.
Determine if a student requires a referral for emergency or continued care or a definitive diagnosis and treatment by the School’s Health Office or physician.
Communicate instances of student injuries to the Director of Athletics, the Health Office, and appropriate school administrators.
Evaluate students’ readiness to play following an injury and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches, the Health Office, and the school’s physician as appropriate.
Work with coaches, parents, and medical professionals to coordinate care and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
Assist with the proper use and maintenance of athletic equipment and supplies.
Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Educate athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and overall wellness. Conduct workshops and training sessions as needed.
Key Responsibilities Athletics Coordinator:
Assist the Director of Athletics in scheduling games (including occasional tournaments and invitationals), practices, transportation and officials for all athletic teams.
Assist in inventory management for uniforms and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Foster a positive, inclusive and supporting environment for all student-athletes and coaches.
Qualifications
National Athletic Trainers Association Board certification
Massachusetts Licensure in good standing
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
A bachelor’s degree in athletic training, exercise physiology, health education, adolescent/child development, or a related field
CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens certification
Experience as an athletics trainer, preferably working with middle school-aged students
Experience working in athletic program coordinator or athletic administration.
