Brockton Hospital Radiology Technologist in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

Performs a wide variety of duties including clerical and clinical tasks as assigned. Checks supplies, equipment and provides general assistance to department as directed. Must have good communication skills and be customer service focused. Medical terminology helpful.

This is a full-time 40 hour/ week position. Evenings

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and initiates x-ray requisition.

  • Calls appropriate personnel to review discrepancies.

  • Prints and reviews paperwork with patients and instructs them to update information.

  • Obtains necessary patient consent for treatment.

  • Properly identifies and prepares patients for examinations, answers or refers to appropriate personnel.

  • According to established procedures, methods and standards, using portable IV poles, portable oxygen carriers, wheelchairs, and stretchers, performs the full range of transport duties as needed.

  • Prepares and mixes contrast for Cat Scan studies as directed by technologist.

  • Performs a variety of technical and non-technical duties to assist in the care and treatment of patients of all ages, newborn through geriatric.

  • Updates patients and families on estimated wait times in the Radiology Department. Remains visible and proactive in meeting patient’s needs.

  • Assists technologist with patients to/from x-ray table and assists in positioning patients on x-ray table as needed.

  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.

  • Performs personal care for patient as needed. Assists patients to bathroom (ambulatory, with cane, crutches or walker). Offers and cares for bedpan or urinal and assists patients to dress or undress as indicated.

  • Receives exposed radiographs for processing, unloads and loads film holders and returns cassettes to proper place in department. Maintains adequate level of film supply in storage bins and chemistry (fixer and developer) in cadisystems.

  • Receives x-ray films and prepares color-coded film jackets, files film in appropriate numerical sequence; pull and furnished films as required.

  • Obtains requisitions, film jackets and records as necessary to insure complete patient records. Sorts, prepares and delivers films for interpretation. Prepares new and old folders as needed.

  • Maintain film archives by filing old films and monitoring loan/return of films to/from other areas, using established logs and film locator application in RIS according to standard procedure.

  • Extensively uses Meditech computer applications pertaining to patient radiology numbers and output of printer bar coding. Correct all Radiology numbers, names, exams etc. as required on film jackets, film requisitions, lists and logs.

  • Retrieves films from off-site storage as required. Pull all films needed for comparison, the Operating Room, and submitted lists. Retrieves films for conferences and meeting rounds. Maintains accurate records to show location and person responsible for films.

  • Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Contributes to other areas in the department and hospital.

  • Shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities. Adjusts and revises workload as necessary in view of stat orders, emergencies, operating room procedures, outpatients, walk-ins and fluctuations in patient workload.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

    Four to six months to become fully proficient in all phases of assigned duties. Additional experience in patient care setting helpful, i.e. medical assistant, certified nursing assistant. Good oral & written communication skills.

  • Ability to raise objects up to 30 pounds from a lower to higher position or to move objects horizontally from positions to positions

    • Ability to extend hand (s) and arms (s) in any direction; pick, pinch, type or otherwise

      primarily work with fingers.

  • Ability to be standing 90% of the time.

  • Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Visual acuity sufficient for work that deals largely with reading and writing.

  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload.
