State of Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner in Brockton, Massachusetts

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) Brockton Multi Service Center (BMSC) is seeking an experienced and skilled RNCS for the role of Outpatient Nurse Practitioner to become part of a dynamic team to aid in the recovery of persons treated within community mental health center. The ideal candidate will provide initial evaluations and assessments, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and daily management of assigned patients in the program. The Outpatient Nurse Practitioner will work closely with Administration, Medical Staff, and all other clinical and administrative support staff to ensure the delivery of quality psychiatric care, and maintain professional competence.

BMSC provides community mental health services to adults with serious mental illness with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety and ability to live and thrive in the community.

Our multi-disciplinary treatment team approach necessitates an ability to work effectively with multiple professionals and to partner with family members and community service providers. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.

Please Note: This position is 24 hours per week, 1st shift.

_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_

  • Under supervision of the Medical Director provides clinical care and treatment for outpatient clients in the Clinic by scheduling regular appointments with assigned clients and performing necessary assessments in order to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

  • Carries a caseload and performs psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and provides ongoing psychopharmacological treatment to ensure high care of mentally ill persons served in the BMSC OP and teams.

  • Ordering medications and treatments and evaluating their effectiveness

  • Participate in meetings such are Grand Rounds, Utilization Management, Case Conferences, Prescriber meetings.

  • Monitor staff legal activities, provides guidance regarding time line, guardianship issues, legal requirements to facility staff.

  • Participate in performance improvement.

  • Maintain current knowledge of psychiatric mental health nursing practice through attendance at seminars, conferences, workshops, in services, an continued education programs as well as facility mandatory trainings

  • Responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age related spiritual and cultural needs of the clients served.

  • Ability to prescribe medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders

  • Ability to assess accurately information given to others either verbally or written.

  • Knowledge of methods used in evaluating clinical treatment strategies

_Preferred Qualifications:_

  • Record of experience and expertise in outpatient care of patients with serious mental illness is desired.

  • Understanding of psychiatric conditions and the treatment of psychiatric conditions.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team and with other clinicians.

  • Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans.

  • Skilled in the prescribing of psychotropic and mental health medications.

  • Thoroughness, independence and excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Capacity to assess, diagnoses, and prescribe/supervise treatment to assigned patients while conforming to regulatory standards and applicable laws to decrease psychiatric symptoms/disorders.

  • Competence in maintaining accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information

  • Resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

  • Ability to participate in annual training as well as any other required specific training in order to assure up to date skills and knowledge in required areas.

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency

The Brockton Multi Service Center provides comprehensive services to mentally ill adults and children. Programs include Case Management, Adult Community Clinical Services program and a Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) team. The Brockton Multi Service Center is a Joint Commission certified facility. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Special Requirements:

Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Current and valid authorization to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
