Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring for a Part-time Monday-Friday 7a-3:30p; weekend and holiday rotation Micro Tech MT/MLT in Brockton, MA.

Type: Part-Time Shift: Day Shift Details: Monday-Friday 7a-3:30p; weekend and holiday rotation.

Micro Tech MT/MLT Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in reading all Clinical Microbiology cultures.

  • Proficient in reading all Clinical Microbiology gram stains.

  • Familiar with CAP and CLSI standards.

  • Function independently in applying appropriate Judgment regarding type and acceptability of test results.

  • Refer unusual problems or issues regarding unfamiliar situations, test procedures, or complaints requiring supervisory attention to the appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain proficiency and perform diagnostic tests in all areas of the Microbiology laboratory.

  • Perform diagnostic tests in accordance with laboratory procedures and policies.

  • Communicate with medical staff and/or office staff as needed (i.e. specimen issues, order questions, result communication.) and documents communications appropriately.

  • Receive and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients.

  • Evaluate specimens for acceptability for proper testing. Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens.

  • Ensure test results correlate with patient's available LIS history. Effectively investigate delta checks. Understands age specific normal values.

  • Accurately enter results into the LIS. Timely review all manually entered results.

  • Effectively communicate all required results to appropriate personnel depending on priority in accordance with lab policy. 

  • Assist Supervisor or Micro Specialist with validations of new instruments if needed.

  • Complete periodic proficiency survey tests and required reports.  Maintain confidentiality of all patient reports and distribute to those authorized.

  • Complete yearly competencies of all tests.

  • Prepare and sets-up equipment for various tests, assure proper calibration and maintenance of equipment.

  • Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory tests.

  • Ensure constant documentation and retention of all quality control data.

  • Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on laboratory equipment.

  • Troubleshoot instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens when problems occur. Notify the Supervisor if unable to solve the problem.

  • Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents.

  • Ensures adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicates to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.

  • Keep current with new developments in the field of clinical laboratory, including procedures, techniques, equipment and computers.

  • Function independently in applying appropriate Judgment regarding type and acceptability of test results

  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, respectful, and courteous environment.

    Required

  • Education: Associate’s/ Bachelor’s Degree in Biology / Medical Technology or Equivalent required

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a Microbiology laboratory setting.

  • Software/Hardware: Meditech, Microsoft Office

    Preferred

  • Certification/Licensure: Associate’s/ Bachelor of Science Degree required. MT/MLT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), or MT (HEW) Certification preferred.
