Position Summary:

Purpose of Position: The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to assigned patients newborn to geriatric according to the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and in compliance with Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act.

Independent Action: Functions independently within established department policies and goals. Refers problems to nurse manager or appropriate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct and/or assist with the activity of licensed practical nurses and ancillary nursing personnel.

This is a full-time 40 hour/ week position

Responsibilities:

Nurses may also be held accountable for job-specific/uit-specific competencies if applicable. Details of these competencies will be provided by the Nurse Manager of that unit/dept. and/or Staff Educator.

Nursing Practice:

  • Assessment: collects relevant patient health data (age-specific pertinent to specialty area).

  • Diagnosis: analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses.

  • Outcome identification: identifies individualized, expected outcomes for patient.

  • Planning/Implementation: develops and implements Plan of Care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.

  • Evaluation: evaluates and documents the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes in the patient medical record.

  • Provide nursing care to assigned patients.

  • Administers prescribed medication and intravenous solutions in a safe manner.

  • Reports significant alterations in patient’s condition to physician.

  • Counsels, educate, and includes patients and their families in accordance with the overall plan of care.

  • Assists patient and family in coping with stress accompanying illness; offering solace and support to the dying.

  • Individual Practice Evaluation: reflects knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, regulations, and changes in health care delivery, in daily practice.

  • Participate in continuing education to maintain current nursing standards for patient care and education, within skill and scope of practice as required by regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

    Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

  • Experience:

  • Certification/Licensure: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered. Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers completion.

  • Software/Hardware: Meditech experience preferred.
