P OSITION SUMMARY:

Assist with the care of orthopedics patients.
Apply complex casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices under the guidance and supervision of attending medical staff.
Maintain orthopedic equipment.
Responsible for the use of all medical and pharmacy supplies.
Ensure the implementation of patient care orders and ensures efficient patient flow.
Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety.
Participation in Compliance and other important training is a condition of employment.
The role encompasses technical skills of application of casts and splints; technical assistance concerning devices, and acts as resource for patients regarding their orthopedic care.
Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients.
Application and removal of all casts and splints.
Size and apply orthopedic devices to patients, such as: ace wraps, upper and lower extremities braces, wrist splints, traction, post operative prosthesis, crutches and canes.
Provide technical assistance and advice concerning casts, sprints, braces, etc. to physicians, residents, medical students and nurses.
Provide verbal or written cast care instructions to patients, answer any and all questions they may have about their casts, splint, or other orthopedic needs.
Prepare requisitions for medical record, cast removal, MRI, EMG, Cat Scan, X-rays, etc

Responsible for assisting with technical/surgical procedures to include but not limited to casting, cast removal and splinting under the direct supervision of the orthopedic physicians.
Prepares and maintains records and files for patients.
Responsible for ensuring implementation of patient care orders.
Promotes safe and effective use of medical equipment and supplies. Responsible for the use of all medical and pharmacy supplies.
Maintain a sanitary work area to include patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; reports equipment malfunctions; stock supplies.
Promptly reports any unusual patient conditions, responses, or concerns to the provider.
Instructs patients and family members in proper use, care, application and removal of equipment.
Responsible for completing basic competencies in addition to departmental specific competencies.
Attends and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations within specialized field.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education : Graduate of a Medical assistant program and/or Graduate of a training program as Orthopedic Technician
Experience (Type & Length): Experience as orthopedic tech preferred, Casting Experience Required
Certification/Licensure: Medical Assistant/ Orthopedic technician
