State of Massachusetts Staff Clinical Psychologist IV in Boston, Massachusetts
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a dynamic and experienced Psychologist to serve as the hospital’s Staff Clinical Psychologist. The incumbent is a credentialed member of the medical staff that provides care to hospitalized medical-surgical patients, including patients incarcerated in state or county prison systems that require inpatient medical-surgical care. Services provided include crisis management, suicide assessment, behavior management interventions and consultations, and supportive therapy. In addition to the secure correctional unit, the staff psychologist provides consultation to clinical services on other units for issues ranging from addiction disorder, patient behavioral management to patient health and wellness. The Staff Clinical Psychologist participates in the supervision, training, and education of professional psychology trainees. The position also involves grant-writing for program development that aligns with hospital and service-specific mission, goals, and objectives. __ _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Provides direct psychological services (evaluation, treatment, consultation, psychological testing, individual and group psychotherapy) to patients hospitalized and on the inpatient correctional unit. * Collaborates with correction department officers and supervisors to promote safe care environment on the inpatient correctional unit. * Provides crisis management for patients under acute stress or having behavioral disturbances and develops behavior management plans for implementation by patient care teams as required. * Offers psychological care and support to terminally ill patients and their families while participating on patient care teams (medicine, nursing, social work, case management, and ancillary services). * Participates in regular formal management meetings for patients with addiction disorder and behavior disturbances and develops appropriate care plan recommendations. * Responds to psychology consultation requests from non-correctional medical service teams on a timely basis and provides written assessments and recommendations within 24 hours of patient evaluation. * Documents all direct clinical care and consultation services in the electronic medical record (Meditech) according to hospital and Joint Commission documentation requirements and sufficient to support third party billing claims. * Participates in quality assurance reviews and quality improvement initiatives of psychology services by monitoring and evaluating the utilization and quality of services delivered. * Implements new or revised programs/services in collaboration with the chiefs of medicine and psychiatry and director of the psychology department. * Provides clinical supervision to psychology graduate trainees as assigned. Participates in the recruitment of psychology trainees and staff. * Supervises and facilitates clinical training programs for staff psychologists, psychology trainees, interns, and postdoctoral fellows on assigned unit(s). * Assists in the development of policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of effective evaluation and treatment services for patients. * Participates and presents at hospital wide committees and training sessions, such as Grand Rounds. _Required Qualifications_: * Knowledge of the principles and practices of psychotherapy. * Experience with therapeutic techniques used in psychotherapy such as analytic, existential, nondirective, behavior modifications; familiarity with the tests and measurements used in ascertaining intelligence, aptitudes, personality, and related mental and physical traits. * Demonstrated knowledge of the methods used in general report writing. * Familiarity with intelligence, aptitude, and personality tests such as the WAIS, WISC, Rorschach, and Thematic Apperception Test. * Ability to participate in multi-disciplinary health care team. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Experience with professional psychological treatments with a full range of patient populations within a healthcare facility or hospital setting. * Prior experience in making professional decisions concerning diagnosis and treatment of patients and inpatient correctional units. * Addiction treatment experience. * Five years of clinical experience, with preferred experience working in a medical setting, with vulnerable, underserved and/or incarcerated populations. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word. _About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 260 inpatient beds including 115 Psychiatric beds and 28 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
