The Speech & Language Pathologist will be responsible for:

  • Assessing candidacy for the broad range of augmentative communication options.

  • Overviewing and understanding of Augmentative Communication Program (ACP) principles and respective roles of no tech, low tech and high tech options.

  • Conducting comprehensive featured match assessment as foundation for identifying broad range of augmentative communication strategies (low tech/quick access, mid tech and high tech options).

  • Working closely with manufacturers to insure best tools and support available for patients.

  • Working closely in collaboration with OT/AT and other team members

  • Programming system setup and design for patients.

  • Participating in data collection to understand best practices

  • Collaborating with people who use AAC, families and care providers, the Augmentative Communication Program (ACP) clinical team, medical and clinical professionals, orthotics/prosthetics, DME’s, funding agencies, AAC manufacturers and wide range of other community resources.

  • Performing evidence based diagnostic treatment when scheduling allows.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • A Master’s degree in Speech Pathology is required.

  • ASHA CCC and Massachusetts state license.

  • 2-3 years of directly related extensive clinical experience in Augmentative Communication.

  • The ability to Conduct in-clinic assessments and interventions for AAC from quick access to high tech, procuring insurance funding for devices and ongoing support as part of our Inter-professional team (SLPs and OT).

Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.

Boston Children’s Hospital’s OUTPATIENT Augmentative Communication Program (ACP) is seeking a full-time ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Start date is Spring 2020. The appropriate candidate has extensive experience in evaluation and treatment of a broad range of children with complex communication needs. Detailed knowledge of current assistive technology and no-tech to high tech solutions is required. Conducting AAC related research and/or developing AAC related projects within the scope of this clinical position is encouraged. Clinicians in the ACP are strongly encouraged to develop their own areas of clinical interest related to AAC assessment and intervention that supports the mission of the program.
