POSITION SUMMARY

The CVS Digital - Developer Experience team is on a mission to build an enterprise software deployment platform, CVS Application Platform (CAP), that will transform how developers deploy applications at scale for CVS Digital application teams. We are a team of engineers and engineering leaders laser-focused on delivering exceptional self-service experiences to our developers who are writing critical guest-facing digital applications to help people on their path to better health. We are looking for engineers and engineering leaders across all levels and skillsets that are passionate about delivering highly scalable, reliable and secure platforms that make deploying software incredibly easy.

About the Role

Senior Engineering Manager -- IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) is a high visibility, hands on software engineering leadership role that will shape and direct our strategy and implementation of delivering self service infrastructure components, such as database, object storage, and other cloud IaaS services. This role will be responsible for creating a high performing software engineering team that is focused on building a datastore platform and creating facades that will abstract provider specific implementations details from the larger platform to enable true self service IaaS provisioning

To be successful in this role you must have a deep passion for software engineering and building highly scalable systems while finding your success through your direct reports by empowering and enabling them to be great software engineers. You must be passionate about career conversations and aligning the right opportunities to your engineers desired career experiences. You will be accountable end to end of your product area, from delivery to long term operational excellence of delivering great products to our customers.

What We Expect of You

  • Self-starter who can see the big picture and prioritize their work to make the largest impact on the business and customers vision and requirements

  • Lead the design and development of the platform engineering team

  • Act as an executive technical leader across strategic efforts, leveraging partners, technical leads, and technical expertise to better inform processes and outcomes

  • Be a technologist and work with other Engineers in planning, prioritizing and performing assigned tasks within deadlines

  • Develop and implement the platform engineering strategy, architecture, and roadmap

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement

  • Be an advocate for and implementer of security best practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of overall IT/Digital Backend development experience on enterprise class applications

  • 4+ years of hands on experience using backend technologies, such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Cassandra

  • 3+ years of experience leading / managing teams with direct reports with additionally experience in leading medium to large sized teams of diverse development engineers across multiple locations.

  • 2+ years partnering with architecture, product, and program management teams to influence product development assisting or improving products, Microservices, and API’s

  • Experience with large public cloud technologies (GCP preferred)

  • Experience with leading teams who follow a Scrum/Agile development methodology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing multiple work streams and dependencies

  • Experience with backend API’s, experience with industry cloud providers

  • Be able to identify a vision along with the plans, which need to be implemented to meet the end goal, evaluating situations, decisions, and issues in the short, medium, and long term

  • Understand of performance, optimization

  • Influence and persuade - able to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others. Adapt to the situation and can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in agreement or behavior change

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$106,605.00 - $260,590.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
