Senior Healthcare Representative Overview of Position

As a Healthcare Representative, you will interview and advocate for patients and their families to obtain maximum benefit coverage in a hospital or home health setting.

Locations and Hours:

Emergency Services (Charlton)/Fall River: Mon-Fri 9-6 with 1 hour lunch and rotating Saturday and Sunday 9-6 coverage every other weekend (Thur, Fri off)

Emergency Services (St. Luke’s)/New Bedford: Sat-Wed 10-7 with 1 hour lunch (days off Thu/Fri)

Emergency Services- Tobey Hospital/ Wareham: Mon-Fri 11-8 with 1 hour lunch and rotating Saturday and Sunday 9-6 coverage every other weekend (Thur, Fri off)

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Interview patients in a hospital setting and/or home visits and work effectively with hospital personnel to assist patients with obtaining maximum benefit coverage

  • Complete applications for state and federal programs (including Health Exchange/Marketplace programs)

  • Achieve and maintain certification designation as “Certified Application Counselor”

  • Review medical records and take all necessary actions to expedite benefit approval

  • Adhere to company and legal standards regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and Personnel Transaction Identifier (PTI)

  • Maintain ongoing communication with government agencies regarding the status of claims

  • Provide updates and assistance to hospital personnel and other Change Healthcare staff as needed

  • Maintain documentation of status of claims and client contract on Change Healthcare and/or hospital computer systems

  • Determine when to use a Federal, State or Local program application based upon medical definition of disability as it relates to body systems and to functions of daily living, and information contained in medical records.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Minimum 1 year in current Healthcare Representative role

  • 3-5 years of relevant hospital and healthcare experience

  • High School Diploma required/ 2 or 4 yr. degree preferred or equivalent experience

  • Intermediate computer/tablet skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Bilingual candidates preferred

  • Knowledge of federal and state programs that will benefit coverage for client

  • Demonstrated experience working with people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Demonstrated experience with strong work ethics and confidentiality pertaining to medical records

What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?

  • General office demands

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking in hospital facilities

  • Ability to travel within the Fall River/New Bedford/ Wareham areas

  • Adherence to facility masking requirements at all times
