This Research Assistant II will be responsible for:
According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performing a variety of routine laboratory tests and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Troubleshooting procedures for effects of heat, humidity, and contamination if test results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. Suggesting alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Performing techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
Assisting with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of tests and procedures. Developing and troubleshooting new techniques.
Maintaining records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiling and analyzing data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
Demonstrating basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students.
Contributing to the team within and between departments and organizations.
To qualify, you must have:
The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree, AND a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
The analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work requires strong quantitative skills.
Experience and/or coursework in computer programming strongly desired but not required.
Dr. Chan’s research group seeks to understand conditions that affect reproductive endocrine development in children using human genetic approaches. These conditions include delayed puberty, in which puberty starts atypically late, and disorders of sex development, in which gonadal and/or genital development is atypical. Current projects involve extracting DNA from blood and saliva, preparing DNA samples for sequencing, analyzing genetic data using bioinformatic tools, and performing in vitro studies to assess the functional impact of genetic variants.
