In a vaccine research department under general supervision of the principal investigator, conducts a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests using molecular, cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques. Performs specific assays of human, non-human primate or rodent specimens in the laboratory following standard operating procedures. Performs quality control analysis and interpretation. Performs lab procedures with speed, precision, and understanding of theory behind tests and procedures. Performs Level I responsibilities with a higher level of problem resolution, analytical ability, and self-direction.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Performs routine laboratory tests i.e. blood and tissue processing, cell culture, immunoassays such as ELISA, ELISPOT, cellular staining, etc.

• Follows GxP (GCLP) standards as defined by different national and international organizations when appropriate for clinical or preclinical studies.

• Produces results that meet established departmental standards for accuracy and precision with minimal repetition or problems.

• Verifies validity of results prior to reporting by observing established quality control criteria prior to reporting.

• Using analytical abilities and sound judgment, makes decisions regarding the reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when necessary.

• May assist with mice handling and necropsy.

• May assist with planning and perform specific research procedures.

• May prepare written and/or verbal reports on status of research and the technical procedures used, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions.

• May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometer, multiplex, flow cytometer, etc.

• May utilize document control (DocXcellent) and specimen (LIMS) management systems.

• May write/review standard operating procedures for assay, equipment, safety.

• Adheres to the laboratory's safety policies.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately and efficiently enters all required data from paper case report forms into the respective databases. Understands the data entry process (i.e. missing values, not applicable values, entering values from unknown dates, etc.).

  2. Enters and documents changes in the database via computer entry screens as well as written documentation of changes made to the paper case report forms as a result of a query or an unsolicited correction. Actively participate in wikidoc material creation and editing.

  3. Prepares, sends and resolves data queries for the clinical sites, records receipt and return of all queries from each clinical site.

  4. Actively participate in all educational projects within the team.

  5. Assist Director with complex scheduling requests and requirements. Assist with travel logistics/requirements for Director and related team members. Any other duties as assigned by Director.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree required in Degree in science-related discipline preferred.

  2. 1-3 years related work experience required.

  3. Careful attention to detail.

  4. Ability to problem solve.

  5. Ability to demonstrate professionalism.

  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  2. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  3. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

  4. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

  5. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
