Here, different talents pursue common goals. Voices are heard and ideas are shared. Join us, and discover how your unique contributions can change lives

The Shearer Lab is a human genomics laboratory at BCH. Our goal is to improve the lives of children with hearing loss. Current lab focuses include the use of exome, genome, and RNA sequencing to 1) improve our understanding of the physiology of hearing, 2) correlate genetics with speech and hearing outcomes among cochlear implant users, 3) advance genetic testing for deafness using new sequencing technologies, and 4) establish diagnostic accuracy prior to proceeding with gene therapy. Human studies, mouse models, and in vitro experiments will all be used to achieve this goal.

We are looking to add a research assistant to work on an exciting human genomics project that involves both clinical activity (consenting patients, obtaining samples) as well as wet-bench techniques (extracting DNA and performing next-generation sequencing experiments). The individual in this role will, therefore, be involved in all aspects of a human genetics and genomics research study from initial subject enrollment to return of results

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and independent worker. The Shearer Lab is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and is physically located in the Center for Life Sciences. We are part of Boston Children’s Department of Otolaryngology & Communication Enhancement hearing research group that includes the Holt/Géléoc Lab and the Koehler Lab
