67426BRJob Posting Title:Research Assistant I-Hematology/OncologyDepartment:Medicine-Hematology/OncologyAutoReqId:67426BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:ResearchJob Posting Description: The Alejandro Gutierrez lab seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to join our efforts to develop novel therapies for treatment-resistant human cancers. Our approach combines functional genetics, biochemistry and drug screens in human cancer cells and in genetically engineered animal models. The selected candidate will work directly on experimental research projects (75% effort), and will also spend 25% effort on lab management duties including purchase ordering and preparation of general lab supplies such as bacterial plates and stock solutions. A highly motivated and productive technician may get the opportunity to lead an independent research project within the lab.
A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with formal study in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or chemistry. The candidate must be a responsible individual with strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in scientific research would be an asset. Experience with genetically engineered animal models is not required, but enthusiasm for learning modern experimental biology is essential, including cell culture, maintenance of animal colonies, phenotypic screening, and tumor cell sorting/analysis.
40 hour/week and a 2-year minimum commitment is highly preferred. A great transition opportunity for a graduating undergraduate student interested in pursuing a graduate or medical education after 2 years. Most previous Gutierrez technicians have been co-authors on scientific publications and are now in medical or graduate school.
