Under general supervision of a pharmacist, the Registered Pharmacy Technician performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures, that provide optimal pharmaceutical care. A Registered Pharmacy Technician must be registered through the Board of Pharmacy and remain in good standings. A Registered Pharmacy Technician may not administer controlled substances; perform drug utilization review; conduct clinical conflict resolution; contact prescribers concerning prescription drug order clarification or therapy modification; provide patient counseling; or perform dispensing process validation. The Registered Pharmacy Technician stamps orders, performs medication order entry, and makes sure medication orders are verified by a pharmacist in a timely fashion to ensure that medications are obtainable by the nurse in the automated dispensing machine. Triages the central area, answer the telephone in a polite manner, and receives in medication deliveries. Receives medications from the direct manufacturers and wholesaler. · Scans all medications into Carousel technology · Assures all medications have a scan able barcode · Affixes appropriate barcodes to items that do not have a bar code · Repackages medications as needed. · Checks expiration dates on all products stocked in the central pharmacy stockroom and Carousel · Completes cycle counts monthly on all items stocked in the central pharmacy stockroom and Carousel · Fills clinic requisitions for medications routinely stocked in the clinics. Provides customer service to staff picking up clinic requisitions Additionally, a Registered Pharmacy Technician must have successfully completed a Board-approved pharmacy technician-training program. This training program shall include coverage of the topics of job descriptions, pharmacy security, commonly used medical abbreviations, routes of administration, product selection, final check by pharmacists, guidelines for the use of pharmacy technicians, and any other requirements of the Board. Anyone hired as a Registered Pharmacy Technician must take and pass the CPht certification exam within six months of employment. Must have a minimum of 6-12 months retail or hospital experience. Must be registered in the state of Massachusetts.
