Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Preoperative patient evaluation:
Performs history and physical examination when necessary.
Initiates appropriate laboratory tests, X-rays, and diagnostic studies.
Makes accurate identification of problems/diagnoses based on correct interpretation of findings.
Assists patients in meeting health needs by identifying existing or potential problems, exploring available alternatives and providing support to the patient to make an informed decision regarding health care.
- Assists the Hand Surgeons in surgery:
Responsible for knowledge of and adherence to all policies and procedures of the NEBH Operating Room.
Participates in those surgeries assigned by the Chief Resident.
- Makes rounds on patients on the assigned service:
Communicate with primary physician the plan of care being initiated or discontinued.
Plaster splint, as required and appropriate for patient care.
Remove casts as needed. Maintain current, accurate medical record documentation.

Responds to calls for orthopedic consultation from all areas, including nursing units, Pre-Admission Screening, Immediate Care Center and the Observation Unit.
Dictates discharge summaries for Hand Section patients.
Participate in the training and education of medical students.
Attend grand rounds in Orthopedics weekly when time allows.
Assist attending physicians with research and presentations as time allows.
Attend daily morning lectures in orthopedics as time allows.
8 Plans time away from work appropriately
Arrives and leaves at designated times.
Uses unplanned earned time appropriately (Based on full time hours. Standards are pro-rated for part-time employees based on agreed hours).
9 Performs other duties as required.
10 Attends annual safety review
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
A graduate of an accredited PA Program. Orthopedic medicine experience preferred.
Interest in Orthopedics.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Must be licensed and certified in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
