Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program Patient Benefits Coordinator II - Finance in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Summary

As the Patient Benefits Coordinator, you will be responsible for registering new patients, creating and checking in appointments, helping patients obtain copies of documentation, and providing other related patient benefits assistance. The position is crucial to the accurate registration of patient’s insurance eligibility and submission of insurance pre-authorizations. This position will provide front desk coverage at various shelter sites throughout the city.

Hours: 40 per week, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, flexible to cover evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the EPIC system to register new patients, make appointments, and check in patients in multiple clinic sites, located in shelters across the Greater Boston area

  • Accurately complete and appropriately process health insurance applications, including MassHealth, for patients at various BHCHP program sites

  • Work closely with the Director of Patient Finance to implement processes and procedures for ensuring correct billing processes are completed and respond to billing team in a timely manner

  • Review insurance eligibility on all patients presenting for scheduled and walk-in appointments to provide patient benefits assistance and process required documentation in a timely manner

  • Timely and accurate completion of applications in order to receive copies of birth certificate for patients who require them; update provider schedules and benefits information in the registration records in EPIC so that each patient’s information is accurate and current

  • Create and run daily reports related to entitlement benefits programs to prevent billing errors; cover for other Benefits and clinic front-desk staff on an as needed basis

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or have attained the requisite skills from prior work experience (1-2 years in a patient benefits or health insurance support capacity)

  • Knowledge of health insurance, entitlement benefit programs and electronic medical records preferred

  • Bi-lingual highly preferred in English and Spanish, Haitian Creole or Portuguese
