  • Performs basic eye examinations under the supervision of an ophthalmologist.

  • This includes; brief medical history, age-appropriate visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, and instillation of eye drops.

  • Measures refraction by retinoscopy.

  • Measures and records visual fields with Goldman and automated perimeter.

  • Serves as member of multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient visits and clinical flow.

  • Works with clinical staff to ensure efficient clinical flow and excellent clinical environments.

  • Performs clinical room preparation and supply ordering.

  • Assists department in complying with hospital and Joint Commission patient safety goals. Assists with contact lens insertion/removal sessions.

  • Assists in explaining treatments or procedures to patients and their families.

  • Ensures that educational materials are created and available as assigned.

  • Working in our Boston locations (300 Longwood Ave and 243 Charles St). Some evenings and Saturdays.

To Qualify, you must have:

  • A High School Diploma or GED

  • 2 years Ophthalmic Technician experience

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

  • Communication skills to deal effectively with clinicians, administrative staff, and families/young patients and well-developed writing skills.

  • Keen organizational skills appropriate to supporting a medical office and balancing assigned tasks and competing responsibilities in the normal course of a clinical ophthalmologic setting.

  • Computer and research skills for tasks of word processing and data coordination.
