  • Performing complex diagnostic evaluations upon referral and in accordance with departmental and professional guidelines and standards. Verifying appropriateness of referral, contacting provider as necessary. Reviewing patient medical history/record and selecting, administering and interpreting a broad range of standardized and non-standardized tests and measurements in order to assess patients' functional status related to cardiopulmonary, developmental, musculoskeletal, neurological and sensorimotor function. Integrates knowledge into clinical decisions and recommendations.

  • Developing and implementing individualized patient treatment programs. Establishes treatment goals and administers appropriate occupational therapy procedures and modalities. Prepares discharge plans and home treatment programs. Providing education to patients and families. Monitoring treatment outcomes, modifying program as needed and communicating recommendations to physicians and other providers.

  • Designing, fabricating and/or recommending orthotics, adaptive/assistive equipment and technology for patients, including those with complex, rare or multiple dysfunctions. Communicating with equipment designers and/or vendors regarding equipment specifications and patient needs. Training patients, families and/or caretakers in use/operation of prescribed orthotics/equipment

  • Recording assessments, diagnoses and treatment in patient medical record according to established documentation standards. Preparing reports, correspondence and other materials for schools, providers, insurance carriers and others as needed. Assigning standardized billing codes and corresponding charges required for reimbursement.

  • Communicating patient care assignments and scheduling needs to assist with operational planning activities.

  • Self-identifying and developing clinical knowledge and skills through participation in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs and other related internal and external resources. Shares knowledge gained from professional development activities with the department and hospital.

  • Attending and contributing to team meetings, patient care rounds and other interdisciplinary forums and provides occupational therapy consultation to physicians, outpatient clinics and others as requested. Representing service on committees, at meetings and educational programs within the department and hospital.

  • Participation in unit and department quality improvement program.

  • Delegating administration of occupational therapy treatments and related direct patient care to assistive staff. Providing direction, supervision and follow up as needed to ensure tasks are performed according to established standards and guidelines.

  • Serving as clinical instructor in departmental student externship program upon completion of eligibility requirements.

  • May participate in departmental training and staff development programs. May act as a supervisor for assigned direct reports, including occupational therapist assistants (OTA) or rehab aides.

  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with patients and families

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

  • Active state of MA OT license

  • Several years of Pediatric and Hand Therapy experience preferred
